Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5 ESV
In the above verses, Paul explains why he rejoices in his suffering: God is working his purposes in Paul through his suffering—not just building character, but instilling hope and a godly love in Paul through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Father God, help us to cooperate with your Holy Spirit and press through our suffering with your peace that passes understanding and your joy that is our strength. Amen.
