For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 1 Corinthians 5:12
This is an important delineation regarding judgment. When the church focuses more on the sins of those outside the community of believers than those who within the body of Christ who are unrepentant (as Paul was addressing in this chapter), we sully the name of Christ in our secular world. We will accomplish far more in terms of spurring revival and growing God’s kingdom if we attend to the unaddressed sins within church and love and pray for those outside the body of Christ who hate and persecute us (as our Lord commands).
Father God, thank you for the two men who called me out in my youth and turned me back to you. And thank you, even today, for those godly believers who help me stay on track in my faith journey. Help us to judge the body of Christ with gentle correction and love and pray for those outside the church who think ill towards us. Amen.
