Daily Focus: Wheat and Tares
But he said, “No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them.” Matthew 13:29
When asked why a good God would allow evil people to wreak havoc in the world, the above verse provides part of the answer. If God were to exact justice on all the evil in the world before Christ returns, many who are deemed to be “good” would be destroyed along with the evil people.
Of course, none of us are “good” apart from Christ’s saving work of forgiveness and redemption. For unbelievers, perhaps a better response would be in the form of questions: If you were God, what would you do? How are you making a difference in addressing the ill effects of evil?
None of these explanations or questions will ultimately move hearts and minds closer to Christ unless the Holy Spirit is working—which is why he says, “He who has ears to hear, listen.”
But by the grace of God we go.
