In this chapter of Acts, we read about three distinct responses to the Gospel. The Thessalonian Jews were jealous and rejected the message and were hostile toward the messengers. The Berean Jews were sincere in their faith and eager to grow in the knowledge of the Truth. The Athenian gentiles were mixed in their responses. Some were open-minded to a novel worldview and others were proud and dismissive.
The takeaway: we are merely chosen vessels. Like the blood vessels that extend throughout our bodies delivering the various nutrients that bring life to our vital organs, we are the conduits of the Gospel. We only deliver the message. The blood of Jesus saves lives when the Holy Spirit and the Word converge and spark new life.
Father God, help us to remember that we are merely your chosen vessels. Help us to press through discouragement when others reject our message and/or us. Amen.
