They refused to obey and were not mindful of the wonders that you performed among them, but they stiffened their neck and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and did not forsake them. Nehemiah 9:17 ESV
This so captures the plight of humankind. We, who are followers of Jesus, have been set free in Christ. Yet, as we press on in the mundane elements of life, we are prone to whinge about our present circumstances and harken for the old way of life free of accountability but enslaved to sin. Thankfully, our God is indeed ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, and abounding in love.
Gracious God, thank you for being patient with us when we have been unfaithful. Thank you for continuing to lead us into your Son’s path of righteousness. Help us in our unbelief to cast our anxiety onto you and trust that you are working all things for our good. Amen.
