But he said to them, “The Lord be with you, if ever I let you and your little ones go! Look, you have some evil purpose in mind.” Exodus 10:10 ESV
Pharaoh engaged in a classic example of gaslighting. He ironically accused Moses of intending evil, but Moses would have none of it. Thankfully, at this point of their protracted confrontation, Moses was confident of God’s reality—not the one that Pharaoh was voicing. That’s the beauty of growing in our faith: we gain clarity of how God is expanding his kingdom amidst a fallen world that presents evil as good and good as evil.
Father God, give us discernment to recognize your truth and goodness when others would malign reality, and grant us wisdom to know how to extinguish the flames of their gaslighting. Amen.
