But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, and not only by his coming but also by the comfort with which he was comforted by you, as he told us of your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced still more. 2 Corinthians 7:6-7
Our words of encouragement travel like a domino effect. One kind or comforting conversation can uplift the disposition of a downtrodden friend and bolster him or her to pay it forward. Still, as Paul notes, we are only the messengers. God is our source of all comfort. Sometimes, we do our best to encourage others, but it seems that our words have fallen on deaf ears. That’s where prayer and patience come in to play.
Father God, thank you for bringing people into our lives who have spoken your timely words of comfort that have kept us moving forward. Help us to do the same for others who desperately need to hear your message of hope. Amen.
