“If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.” Proverbs 1:23 ESV
In his devotional, My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambers states: “God will never reveal more truth about Himself till you obey what you know already.” I have certainly found this to be true in my own life. The above verse has a similar meaning. Repentance and obedience lead to greater knowledge of God and his ways. Conversely, when we choose to follow our own consciences (what we deem to be best for us and others) and disregard the provoking of the Word and Spirit, we will stunt our growth of godly wisdom and encounter unnecessary, painful life-lessons that could have been avoided or at least mitigated.
Father God, give us the strength and humility to agree with your Holy Spirit when he exposes our lies and blind spots with his truth and grace, that we might grow in our knowledge and love of you and your Son and mature in your wisdom. Amen.
