Whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face was shining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him. Exodus 34:34-35 ESV
Our biblical narrative is wonderfully cohesive. This small detail of Moses’ shekinah glory and of how he veiled his face (except when he was in the presence of God) points us to Jesus’ passion. The Son who exhibited the Farther’s unveiled glory would atone for the sins of all God’s children. Resultantly, the hand of God would tear apart the Ark of the Covenant’s veil from top to bottom and once and for all remove all barriers of sin, that we might approach his throne room of grace with confidence knowing that we can receive his mercy and find his grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16) Hallelujah, the veil is lifted!
