Scripture: He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high… Hebrews 1:3 ESV
Observation: The author of Hebrews writes to a Jewish audience of converts to the Christian faith to encourage them to persevere through persecution. The letter focuses on the supremacy of Christ above all creation and his role as the ultimate prophet, priest, and king (verses 2-3). The Father spoke to us through his Son (prophet), who upholds the universe (king) and who purified us from our sins (priest).
Takeaway: When our world feels out of control because others are persecuting us, or because sin has bested us, or because our losses feel inconsolable, refocus on the One anointed with “the oil of gladness” (verse 9). For the joy set before him (that would be us), Christ endured the cross and is seated on high (12:2). He is our Great Trifecta (our Prophet, our Priest, and our King)! Bet on him.
Prayer: Father God, please help us each day to turn our minds and hearts away from ourselves and the world to your Son and behold the radiance of his glory. Amen.
