Scripture: “Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But the Lord of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.” Isaiah 8:12-13 ESV
Observation: In this prophecy of Isaiah, he cautions God’s people of the folly of becoming consumed in worldly hysteria and fears that are based on faulty human thought and devoid of a godly perspective. It will only produce the fruit of dread.
Takeaway: Nothing is new under the sun. Today, media outlets manufacture conspiracy theories regarding voter fraud, the pandemic, and other sundry hot topics across our nation. It’s easy to become swept up in the hysteria and invest inordinate amounts of time and energy ruminating on possible outcomes and discussing/posting our positions. But the Lord has some advice for us: do not join the senseless babble of fearmongers. Instead, fear the Holy One who rescues the godly from trials and punishes the unrighteous (2 Peter 2:9). Instead, focus on our sovereign Creator who will, in due time, make all things new (Revelation 21:5). Meanwhile, let’s invest our time and energy in growing his kingdom and glorifying his name.
Prayer: Father God, grant us the grace to turn away fearmongers and their conspiracy theories and instead turn toward you, that we might be your ministers of peace. Amen.
