“Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” John 4:29 ESV
“Come and see.” John’s Gospel begins with a series of invitations from Jesus’ future disciples to come and see the one who may be the Messiah. In this reading of chapter 4, a Gentile woman invites her townspeople to come and see the one who knows everything about her and who may be the Christ. Finally, near the end of John’s Gospel, he tells us that Mary Magdalene came to see her crucified Savior (who delivered her from seven demons) lying in his tomb. Instead, she encounters her risen Rabi and runs and tells the disciples that she has seen the Lord.
“Come and see.” It’s the starting point, middle, and end of our stories as well.
