“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 ESV
What is this peace that the world does not know? It is a godly peace founded in intimate knowledge and confidence of our Father’s sovereignty (that he is in control of all things) and of his goodness (that he is working all things for our good, Rom 8:28). And it is an unconditional peace that is not determined by our circumstances. Like the eye of a hurricane, Christ’s centering peace brings calm to our stormy trials.
So how do we apprehend his supernatural peace? We don’t; it flows from the Father through the Son to us who dwell in him. It is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) that grows in tandem with our trust in and love for our Lord and Savior.
