Scripture: Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. Hebrews 3:5-6 ESV
Observation: “Over” versus “in”, that’s the thrust of this passage. The writer of Hebrews threads the theme of Christ’s supremacy throughout his letter. In the first two chapters, he explains how Jesus is supreme over angels. In this chapter, the author argues that he is also superior to Moses (Israel’s most lauded prophet). While Moses played a key role “in” the construction of the Father’s house, he is still a resident. But Jesus is the overseer/builder of the Father’s house.
Takeaway: Jesus holds the keys (so to speak), and no one enters by any other means other than through his door (John 14:6). And we are his building blocks. We who know and love Jesus are his house, his church. He has hung our portraits on his walls.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for granting us the privilege of being the building blocks of your Son’s church. Use us to attract onlookers, that they might see the Builder’s masterpiece of construction and behold his glory. Amen.
