Scripture: For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. Psalm 62:1, 5 ESV
Observation: This Psalm 62 beautifully depicts David’s confidence in his loving and just God. David declares that he will not entrust himself to humankind but the Lord alone. In the above two verses, we feel the pulse of his psalter: wait in silence. Do not fill the empty spaces and moments with anxious chatter. Allow your soul to wait in silence.
Takeaway: It is in these moments of quiet rest (which can be agonizing when our minds whirl with possible outcomes) that we experience the peace of Christ that strengthens and refreshes our weary souls. And, like David, in due time, the Lord’s strong arm of salvation will rescue us from our trials. Therefore, in God alone, we entrust our souls as we wait in silence.
Prayer: Father God, grant us grace to quiet our troubled hearts in your presence, that we would appropriate your Son’s peace of mind and grow in confidence of your loving care. Amen.
