Scripture: Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people; help me when you save them, that I may look upon the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation, that I may glory with your inheritance. Psalm 106:4-5 ESV
Observation: Here, the psalmist petitions the Lord to help him look upon the prosperity of fellow believers and celebrate in their blessings. It is a noble request that exhibits an earnest desire to rise above feelings of jealousy. However, it’s also a matter of perspective. He recognizes that when God pours out blessings on others in his community of faith, we all benefit.
Takeaway: We will not rise above feelings of jealousy if we seek our glory rather than the glory of the Lord’s inheritance. We are certainly part of his collective inheritance, but that’s the point. Together, we bring glory to God.
Prayer: Father God, convict us when green with envy over others’ prosperity and stir in our hearts a desire to see all your children flourish. Please help us to resist competition within the body of Christ and instead seek to promote others for your glory. Amen.
